The Future is US (TFIU) is a Communities of Care grantee funded by the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health. Over the next five-year grant term, Hogg will provide a total of $11.5 million in funds to Communities of Care collaboratives in the Houston Metropolitan Statistical Area in efforts to transform the environments of which people live, learn, work, play and pray. The grant supports the promotion of resilience, mental health, and well-being for youth of color and their families in Galveston.

Since being awarded the grant in 2019, TFIU has engaged with historically excluded groups, including youth and parents involved with the school district, regarding the school and community conditions, practices, and policies that perpetuate the racial inequities in the education system.

With the qualitative and quantitative data collected, TFIU is developing policies to address inequities in Galveston Independent School District and the community.
